Around 1985-86, Prof. Bernd M. Rode from the University of Innsbruck in Austria consulted with Prof. Hitoshi Ohtaki (an International Steering Committee Member of the International Conference on Solution Chemistry (ICSC): present; Ritsumeikan University: Professor of Tokyo Institute of Technology at that time, and then Professor of Institute for Molecular Science of the Okazaki National Research Institutes, Japan) that Prof. Rode had a wish to organize an international conference concerning solution chemistry in Thailand as one of the Prof. Rode’s research and educational activities in Thailand. However, unfortunately ICSC had been scheduled until 1991, and thus, it was impossible to invite the conference to Thailand before the year. Therefore, Profs. Rode and Ohtaki asked their friend, Prof. Ivano Bertini of Florence University in Italy to join them to discuss Prof. Rode’s idea and they changed Prof. Rode’s original proposal to the creation of an international conference called Eurasia Conference on Chemistry of Solution (EuAsC2S) with the aim at deepening the friendship of chemists in the Eurasia continent, at supporting scientific researches of chemists in the continent with the help of chemists in other continents such as America, Canada, and Australia, and at organizing a world-top class international conference in a developing country of Asia with the help of their world-wide friendship network through which we invite world-leading scientists, with whom scientists, especially young scientists in developing countries, could exchange information to emphasize scientific activities of their countries. Under such a vision of the three founders, Prof. Rode, Prof. Ohtaki and Prof. Bertini, the First Eurasia Conference on Chemistry of Solution (1st EuAs C2S) was held in Bangkok in 1988 (# ).
Eurasia Conference on Chemistry of Solution changes the name to Eurasia Conference of Chemistry in Seoul in 1990, and then, again to Eurasia Conference on Chemical Sciences in 1992 due to the expansion of the areas of chemistry involved in the conference. The logo of the conference is “EuAsC2S”, which was proposed by Dr. Sunt Techakumpuch of Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, in 1988.
Eurasia Conference on Chemical Sciences has the Chairman of the International Organizing Committee (IOC) at each conference, who has responsibility of organization of a conference as a whole, and the Chairman of National Organizing Committee (NOC), who is responsible to organize the conference with the cooperation of the National (Local) Organizing Committee. Besides these committees, EuAsC2S involves International Advisory Committee in which world-leading scientists are contributing to support activities of the conference. At present, EuAsC2S has 27 members from 25 countries.
